COM port generally is not needed directly but it becomes extremely important if we have to unlock the device and send AT commands to the router. In most of the cases, executing setup file is enough to install the drivers but sometimes the procedure to enable COM ports becomes tricky and requires a lot of manual actions.
First Method:
Connect the router to the PC using USB cable.
Open the web browser and type http://192.168.8.1/html/switchProjectMode.html. Replace the IP with your router IP address and press enter from the keyboard. You will notice that the webpage will become blank as given below.
Open Device Manager, you might notice two yellow icons as given below.
Right click on the first yellow icon and choose update drivers.
Locate the drivers on the PC and click OK.
Repeat the same process for all the Huawei missing drivers.
After installation, make sure that the yellow icon is replaced by the proper com ports as shown in the picture below.
Second Method:
Sometimes the above method won’t work and instead of displaying COM ports it displays HUAWEI_MOBILE having a yellow icon. It is an indication that the drivers are not installed properly and need to be fixed. This problem can be solved by manually installing the drivers available in the operating system.
Download Drivers
Right click on HUAWEI_MOBILE and choose Update Driver Software.
Choose the second option out of two option shown on the screen. i.e. Browse my computer for driver software
Now click on the option Let me pick from a list of device drivers given at the bottom.
Choose Show all devices option.
Click on Have Disk and select the location where the drivers are stored.
choose the file ewser2k.inf and click open.
You will be presented with a lot of drivers. Select Huawei Mobile Connect – 3G PC UI interface and click next to proceed. You might get a warning, Click on yes button. You will be presented with a message informing you of the successful installation.
If you go to the device manager now, you will notice that the yellow icon is replaced with the proper COM port.
